Sarducci’s

Sarducci’s is a nice Italian restaurant that is known for having some of the best Italian food in the Montpelier area. Our favorite thing about Sarducci’s is the location. For one, Sarducci’s is conveniently located right in the heart of downtown Montpelier. That means it is a short walk to other shops, restaurants, and bakeries. But that is not even our favorite thing about their location. Sarducci’s is also nestled up against a flowing large river that runs parallel to one of the main roads in town. That means that their patio and outdoor seating area have beautiful views of the river. Sarducci’s is not a dedicated gluten free facility, but they are knowledgeable about cross contamination and a large portion of their menu can be made gluten free upon request.

  • Gluten free status. Sarducci’s is not a dedicated gluten free facility. That being said, there are many items on their menu that are or can be made gluten free. Their menu is not comprehensively labeled with information on which dishes can be made gluten free, but it does contain high level information that helps you understand which sections of the menu should be avoided. For example, the menu notes that gluten free pasta and gluten free pizza dough are available. In order to determine whether a specific dish can be made gluten free, you will need to talk with your server. The servers at Sarducci’s are generally knowledgeable about what items can be made gluten free and they always make sure to double check with the kitchen. If you let your server know that you are sensitive to cross contamination, they will leave a note for the kitchen that they should use proper allergy protocols.
  • Other dietary restrictions. Sarducci’s also has vegetarian options available. The vegetarian options are not labeled on the menu, but they are generally easy to spot.
  • Cuisine. Sarducci’s is an Italian restaurant with a menu that primarily focuses on Italian cuisine.
  • Atmosphere. Sarducci’s is a relatively nice spot. It is not overly fancy, but it is one of the nicer spots in the Montpelier area. While the ambiance inside is nice, the patio area and the outdoor seating area are our favorite parts of the restaurant. The restaurant is nestled up against a beautiful river and the patio seating and outdoor seating in front of the restaurant have a beautiful view of the river.

Kismet is a New American restaurant that is known for being one of the best restaurants in the Montpelier area. This is a very popular spot that is a hit with gluten free foodies and gluten eating foodies alike as they are known for serving some seriously delicious food. Kismet is also known for having some of the more creative food in the Montpelier area as some of their dishes incorporate non-traditional ingredients in unique ways. The owners of the restaurant have a family member with celiac disease, so they are knowledgeable about cross contamination and know how to make food that is celiac safe.

Update: Kismet permanently closed their doors in Summer of 2023.

Wilaiwans

Wilaiwans is another popular spot that is known for having some of the best food in Montpelier. This is a small Thai restaurant with a rotating menu that generally only has three or four items on it at a time. Wilaiwans is known for serving dishes with bold, complex flavor profiles that are unparalleled in Vermont. They generally have at least one item on their menu that is gluten free, but they rarely have vegetarian options available as they use fish sauce and meat broths in most of their dishes. Wilaiwans primarily focuses on takeout and often sells out of all of their dishes early in the day, so make sure to stop by early if you want to enjoy their food.
