Lago is an absolutely beautiful restaurant in the town of Meredith. The restaurant is located right along the side of the Lake and has walls that are lined with windows to take advantage of the lakeside view. It is the perfect place to go if you are looking for a special place to celebrate an occasion or impress a date.

Gluten free status. Lago is not a dedicated gluten free restaurant. That being said, a large portion of their menu can be made gluten free upon request. In fact, most items on their menu can be made gluten free with substitutions. They have gluten free pasta, bread, and flatbread crust available. They do not have gluten free menus available, but their servers are very knowledgeable about what is or can be made gluten free and they can walk you through the menu. They take food allergies seriously and will take precautions to prevent cross contamination if you let them know that you have celiac disease or a severe sensitivity.
Other dietary restrictions. There are also vegetarian items available on the menu. The vegetarian options are somewhat limited, especially if you are not comfortable eating parmesan cheese that may be made with animal rennet.
Cuisine. Lago is an upscale Italian restaurant that primarily sells Italian food. They have a large selection of Italian-inspired appetizers, salads, pasta dishes, and flatbreads.
Atmosphere. Lago has some amazing views of the lake and a wonderful ambiance. The amazing views at the restaurant are easily our favorite thing about the restaurant. Some seats have better views of the lake than others, but most seats have some kind of view. Even if you are not in a seat that has a clear lakeside view, the ambiance at the restaurant is still very nice. They have a large, open space that is stylishly decorated with sleek wooden accents and nice lighting fixtures.
Location. Another great thing about Lago is its location. Lago is located right in the heart of downtown Meredith, so It is close to lots of other shops, restaurants, and ice cream shops.
Seating. There is a small amount of outdoor seating available at Lago, but most of the seating is located indoors. Seating is often competitive, especially on weekend nights during peak dinner hours. That being said, they do not take reservations ahead of time. You can, however, drop into the restaurant and put your name on a waitlist ahead of time.

Vida at the Lake

Vida at the Lake is another great restaurant that is located in downtown Meredith. Vida on the Lake is a Mexican restaurant that has a large and varied menu. While the menu is not entirely gluten free, a large portion of the menu is or can easily be made gluten free. They have delicious food, a fun atmosphere, and a great location near many other popular shops and restaurants.

Gluten free status. Vida at the Lake is not a dedicated gluten free restaurant. That being said, they have many options that are or can be made gluten free upon request. Their menu is labeled to make it clear what items are or can be made gluten free. A large portion of the menu can be gluten free upon request. There are generally staff members available who can provide information on potential sources of cross contamination. They do not generally have a gluten free fryer available.

Hermit Woods Winery is a lovely winery that has a large array of wines and drinks available. They are well known for their wine flights, which feature a variety of local wines. Many of their wines are made with unique fun ingredients like strawberry and rhubarb. While Hermit Woods Winery is primarily a winery, they also have a menu of snacks and sandwiches for those who are looking to get some food. Many of their food items can be made gluten free upon request.

Giuseppe’s Pizzeria & Ristorante

Giuseppe’s is a nice Italian restaurant that has a large range of gluten free offerings. While most of the items on their menu do contain gluten in their natural state, a large portion of the menu can be made gluten free with substitutions. They have gluten free pasta, pizza, bread, and more available for gluten free foodies.

Update. We have heard multiple stories about people who are sensitive to cross contamination having reactions to the food at Giuseppe’s in the last year or so. This is still a good option for people who are not sensitive to cross contamination, but we would recommend that people who are sensitive to cross contamination do their research before dining here.

Gluten free status. Giuseppe’s is not a dedicated gluten free facility. They are a traditional Italian restaurant that specializes in dishes like pasta and pizza, so there is a lot of gluten in their kitchen. Many of their dishes can be made gluten free with substitutions, but some dishes are more susceptible to cross contamination than others. The servers are generally knowledgeable about how food is prepared and are able to steer you away from items that may be more susceptible to cross contamination.

These are great options if you are looking to grab a quick meal on the go.

Trolley 27

Trolly 27 is easily our favorite place to grab a gluten free meal in the Lake Winnipesaukee area. Trolly 27 is a dedicated gluten free food truck that sells waffles and waffle sandwiches. They have some of the best, if not the best, gluten free waffles that we have ever had. They also have a small outdoor bar that is popular with the locals. This is a very casual spot with an outdoor dining area, so make sure to wear appropriate footwear.

Gluten free status. Trolly 27 is a dedicated gluten free facility. While it is not loudly advertised, all of the waffles and waffle sandwiches that are sold at Trolly 27 are gluten free. That means that there is no need to worry about cross contamination.
Other dietary restrictions. Trolly 27 primarily caters to gluten free diners.
Cuisine. The menu at Trolly 27 draws inspiration from American cuisine, and particularly American breakfast food. This food truck specializes in gluten free waffles and serves all kinds of waffle dishes and waffle sandwiches. They say that you would never know that their waffles were gluten free unless they told you and that is the truth. They have some of the best gluten free waffles we have ever had.
Atmosphere. Trolly 27 is a very casual spot that is popular with the locals. It is located outdoors on the outskirts of a popular golf course, so there is lots of grass and open space around.
Location. Trolly 27 is located in Laconia, New Hampshire. It is in a more rural area that is not close to many other shops and restaurants.
Seating. There is only outdoor seating available at Trolly 27. Some of the seating is covered, but most of the seating is uncovered. They have a good amount of seating available, so it is generally fairly easy to find a table.

While we have not been to all of their restaurants, The Common Man family is a great family of restaurants for people who eat gluten free. All of their restaurants are accommodating to people with food allergies and they do a particularly good job handling gluten allergies. They even own our favorite restaurant in the Lake Winnipesaukee area, Lago!

The Common Man restaurant family has many locations throughout the state of New Hampshire, multiple of which are in the Lake Winnipesaukee area. For example, Lago, Route 104 Diner, and the Lakehouse Grille are all located relatively close to the lake.
